BIORESIST Field Sampling Activities in Crete: Ports and Marinas

March 2026: The first phase of the BIORESIST sampling campaign in Crete was successfully completed, with water samples collected from ports and marinas across the island, including Heraklion, Pantanassa, Bali, Rethymno, Souda, Chania, Kissamos, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia, Ierapetra, and Arvi. The samples will undergo microbiological and molecular analyses to identify antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. Furthermore, the resistance mechanisms detected will be comparatively evaluated against those identified in microorganisms originating from extreme environments, aiming to provide insights into the dissemination and evolution of antimicrobial resistance.
